Mission StatementMercy Academy is an independent school established to support families in the spiritual, moral and academic formation of their children within the context of the Catholic faith. Founded under the inspiration of Pope John Paul II, Mercy Academy takes seriously the sacred trust of educating students for eventual service to the world and to the Church in the 21st century. Mercy Academy entrusts its mission to Mary, the Mother of God.Vision StatementMercy Academy was founded to assist and support parents in the spiritual and academic formation of their children. Toward this end, the Roman Catholic faith permeates and completes the traditional academic curriculum of Mercy Academy, and is evident in the lives of its staff and students. Our aim is to develop, in the lives of the students, an inclination to study, a love for learning, and a mature understanding of the truths of the Catholic faith. In so doing, we strive to assist parents in preparing their children to enter the world as well-educated and virtuous Catholic ladies and gentlemen who are ready and able to respond to God's call in every aspect of their lives, transforming society in a Christian way.Mercy Academy Seal Our Mercy Academy Seal begins with the quote, "Ut Testimonium Perhibeamus Veritati," "That we may bear witness to the truth." This is the motto of Mercy Academy and the short phrase reflects the reason why Mercy Academy exists. It is the distillation of our Mission that is to support families in the spiritual, moral and academic formation of children for their eventual service to the world and to the Church. Our motto derives from one of the most interesting conversations in the history of mankind; namely that of Jesus Christ and Pontius Pilate. When Jesus said to Pontius Pilate that he came to bear witness to the truth, Pilate asked Jesus, "What is the truth?" Pilate never waited for the answer! At Mercy Academy, we strive to provide an answer to this question to all who encounter us and especially our students. We do this through fidelity to the Pope and the magisterium in all that we teach. Thus the words, Cum Petro, Sub Petro; with Peter, under Peter, are part of our Seal. John Paul II wrote an encyclical letter entitled, Fides et Ratio, Faith and Reason, in 1998. Fedes et Ratio is also part of our seal to show that they are our companions in showing the truth about man. John Paul II expressed this when he said, "Faith and reason are like two wings on which the human spirit rises to the contemplation of truth; and God has placed in the human heart a desire to know the truth--in a word, to know himself--so that by knowing and loving God, men and women may also come to the fullness of truth about themselves." Board of DirectorsThe Board of Directors is the governing body of the school and is responsible for developing the policies under which the school operates. This body directs the head of the school in implementing these policies. It is the duty of the Board of Directors to protect and promote the mission of the school.
